Angiopoietin-like protein 3 (ANGPTL3) is a secreted protein primarily produced in the liver. The messenger RNA (mRNA) for ANGPTL3 serves as the template for synthesis of the ANGPTL3 protein, a key regulator of lipid metabolism. ANGPTL3 inhibits lipoprotein lipase (LPL) and endothelial lipase (EL), influencing plasma triglyceride and cholesterol levels. Genetic or pharmacological inhibition of ANGPTL3 mRNA, and subsequent protein production, leads to reduced blood lipids and potential cardiovascular benefits. Therapies targeting ANGPTL3 mRNA are being developed for the treatment of dyslipidemia.
