Overview

Angiostatin is a naturally occurring protein fragment derived from plasminogen that acts as an endogenous inhibitor of angiogenesis. It consists of multiple kringle domains and exerts its anti-angiogenic effects by binding to various proteins on endothelial cell surfaces, disrupting signaling pathways related to VEGF and nitric oxide, and modulating mitochondrial function. Its ability to inhibit tumor-induced neovascularization has led to clinical trials exploring its use in cancer therapy.
