Overview

The angiotensin II receptors are a family of G protein-coupled receptors that mediate the effects of angiotensin II, a key hormone in the renin-angiotensin system (RAS). The most well-characterized subtypes are AT1 and AT2, which have opposing effects on blood pressure, cell growth, and other physiological processes. AT1 receptor activation leads to vasoconstriction, aldosterone release, and cell proliferation, while AT2 receptor activation generally opposes these effects, promoting vasodilation, antiproliferation, and neuronal regeneration. Angiotensin II receptors, especially AT1, are major drug targets for managing hypertension and heart failure.

Mechanism of action
