Overview

ANKRD44 intronic transcript 1 (ANKRD44-IT1) is a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) located within the intronic region of the ANKRD44 gene and is found in the cytoplasm of human cells[1][3][4]. It is identified as upregulated in osteosarcoma tumor samples compared to normal bone[1][2]. Bioinformatic analysis predicts that ANKRD44-IT1 may encode micropeptides, which is uncommon among lncRNAs[1]. Functional studies specifically characterizing ANKRD44-IT1 are lacking. However, it has been computationally shown to interact with VEGFC and ADCYAP1R1, genes crucial for cancer cell mobility and angiogenesis, suggesting a potential but as-yet unconfirmed role in tumor progression or metastasis. Despite its differential expression in cancer, ANKRD44-IT1 is not established as a therapeutic target, and its biological and clinical significance remain to be elucidated[1][2][3][4].
