Ankyrin repeat and SOCS box protein 15 (ASB15) is a protein encoded by the ASB15 gene and is primarily expressed in skeletal muscle. ASB15 plays a significant role in the regulation of muscle cell development by modulating protein synthesis and turnover through its participation in the ubiquitin-proteasome system. Full-length ASB15 delays myoblast differentiation but stimulates protein synthesis and increases muscle fiber area in muscle tissue. Its molecular function involves acting as a substrate-recognition component of an E3 ubiquitin ligase complex, driven by its ankyrin repeats and SOCS box domain, which are crucial for protein-protein interactions and substrate targeting for degradation. ASB15 expression is regulated during muscle growth, particularly in response to beta-adrenergic stimuli, and it may mediate effects through modulation of the Akt/PI3K pathway. While important for muscle biology, it does not have confirmed roles in human disease or as a direct drug target
