Ankyrin repeat and SOCS box protein 18 (ASB18) is a member of the ankyrin repeat and SOCS (suppressor of cytokine signaling) box-containing (ASB) protein family in humans. Members of this protein family contain N-terminal ankyrin repeat domains—motifs known for mediating protein-protein interactions—and a C-terminal SOCS box, which can recruit components of an E3 ubiquitin ligase complex. ASB18 is thought to function as a substrate-recognition subunit of a SCF-like ECS (Elongin-Cullin-SOCS-box) E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase complex, mediating polyubiquitination and subsequent proteasomal degradation of target proteins[1][3][7]. There is currently no direct evidence linking ASB18 with specific diseases, nor are there known drugs or inhibitors directly targeting ASB18. It is not classified as a major therapeutic target (such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter), but may play a supporting role in ubiquitin-dependent protein degradation[1][3][7]. The UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot accession for human ASB18 is Q6ZVZ8[1][7].
