Ankyrin repeat and SOCS box protein 6 (ASB6) is a member of the ASB (Ankyrin repeat and SOCS box) family, proteins that contain ankyrin repeat domains for substrate recognition and a C-terminal SOCS (suppressor of cytokine signaling) box[2][3][5]. The SOCS box enables ASB6 to assemble with Elongin B/C, Cullin 5 (CUL5), and RBX2 to form ECS-type E3 ubiquitin ligase complexes responsible for ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation of specific protein substrates[1][5]. ASB6 is involved in modulating insulin signaling by targeting components of the insulin pathway for degradation in adipocytes, thus influencing glucose uptake[2][7].
