Overview

Ankyrin repeat domain 30B pseudogene 2 (ANKRD30BP2), also known as CT85, CTSP-1, cancer/testis antigen 85, and C21orf99, is a member of the cancer/testis antigen family characterized by highly restricted expression in adult testis and aberrant expression in several cancers, most notably prostate cancer. ANKRD30BP2 is a pseudogene that, despite its annotation, has been shown to be aberrantly transcribed and to elicit a humoral immune response in a subset of cancer patients. Antibodies against CTSP-1/ANKRD30BP2 are detected in about 20% of prostate cancer patients and are a favorable prognostic indicator, with a lower risk of biochemical recurrence. As a CTA, ANKRD30BP2 is under investigation as both a biomarker and a potential immunotherapeutic target, although no direct drugs or therapeutics currently act on it. Major challenges include variable tumor expression and the need for combination biomarker approaches due to tumor heterogeneity.
