Overview

Ankyrin repeat domain-containing protein 13B (ANKRD13B) is a cytoplasmic protein containing multiple ankyrin repeats, acting primarily as a ubiquitin-binding scaffold that recognizes 'Lys-63'-linked ubiquitin but not 'Lys-48'-linked chains. It participates in the negative regulation of receptor internalization, notably for the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), by transiently promoting complex formation with molecular partners to facilitate receptor trafficking. The protein is found mainly in endosomes, the perinuclear region, and the plasma membrane, and although its involvement in receptor trafficking suggests possible relevance in disease contexts such as cancer and neuropsychiatric disorders, it is not currently classified as a therapeutic target for drug development.
