Overview

Ankyrin repeat domain-containing protein 33B (ANKRD33B) is a protein encoded by the ANKRD33B gene, which belongs to the ankyrin repeat domain-containing (ANKRD) family and is characterized by ankyrin repeat motifs that mediate protein-protein interactions[2][3][4][8]. While the precise molecular function of ANKRD33B is not fully elucidated, studies indicate it is susceptible to epigenetic regulation, particularly in the context of developmental programming (e.g., altered DNA methylation in response to in utero nicotine exposure, possibly influencing respiratory and immune function later in life)[2]. Additionally, ANKRD33B expression has been correlated with cancer progression, specifically serving as part of a prognostic signature for lymph node metastasis in gastric cancer[2]. Despite these associations, there is currently no evidence that ANKRD33B acts as a direct therapeutic target (e.g., receptor, enzyme) or that it interacts with any approved drugs. Its disease roles and function remain subjects of ongoing research, with most findings pointing to its involvement in gene regulatory networks and disease susceptibility rather than direct therapeutic modulation[2][4][5][7][8].
