Ankyrin repeat domain pseudogene

Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene)
01

Overview

Ankyrin repeat domain pseudogene (ENSG00000253312) is defined as a DNA sequence in the human genome with high homology to “ankyrin repeat domain” protein-coding genes, but is incapable of producing a functional protein product. Pseudogenes like this arise predominantly through gene duplication events or retrotransposition, followed by subsequent mutational inactivation. These loci are characterized by the absence of protein-coding capacity and loss of normal regulatory elements, distinguishing them from true functional genes. Pseudogenes in general are classified as "other" in molecular families, and while some pseudogenes have regulatory RNA functions, the majority—including ENSG00000253312—have limited or no known biological roles, do not contribute to specific disease processes, and are not valid therapeutic targets. ENSG00000253312 is not used for drug development, is not listed among disease-modifying pseudogenes, and does not function as a biomarker.

Biological functions

Other (Pseudogenes generally lack biologically active functions; some very rare pseudogenes have regulatory RNA roles, but there is no evidence for this locus)
03

Disease associations

Other (There is no direct evidence associating this particular pseudogene with disease roles; some pseudogenes may act as biomarkers or noncoding RNA regulators, but these roles are locus-specific and not generalized)
