Overview

Annexin A2 pseudogene 2 (ANXA2P2) is a processed pseudogene of the annexin A2 gene, mapped to chromosome 9p13, which does not encode a functional protein but is Aberrantly transcribed in some cancers. ANXA2P2 transcripts are homologous to ANXA2, and elevated expression of ANXA2P2 is associated with enhanced migration and invasion of hepatocellular carcinoma cells, correlating with poor overall survival and prognosis in affected patients. ANXA2P2 is not a protein-coding gene, nor a therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or ion channel. It is mainly of interest as a possible prognostic biomarker in oncology research, especially in liver and possibly ovarian cancer, but does not itself encode a protein or directly interact with drugs currently in use[3][7][4]. While ANXA2P2 may be biologically and clinically relevant, it is not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or target typically considered for direct therapeutic modulation. Its main relevance lies in cancer research as a non-coding RNA that possibly regulates metastasis-related genes through RNA-based mechanisms (e.g., competing endogenous RNA effects), but these are not fully understood and represent emerging research rather than established therapeutic targeting[3][7].
