Overview

Annexin A3 is a calcium-dependent phospholipid-binding protein encoded by the ANXA3 gene and is primarily recognized for its roles in membrane-related functions including vesicular transport, cell migration, and membrane organization. It acts as an endogenous inhibitor of phospholipase A2 and participates in inhibiting inositol 1,2-cyclic phosphate, with additional anti-coagulant function. Annexin A3 is implicated in regulation of cellular growth, apoptosis, angiogenesis, and inflammatory responses, and its dysregulation has been associated with various cancers, where it can contribute to altered cell proliferation, survival, migration, and neovascularization. It is currently being studied as a potential therapeutic target and biomarker, particularly in prostate and ovarian cancers, but also carries concerns regarding its multifaceted roles in tumor biology and vascular processes.
