Overview

Annexin A4 is a member of the annexin family of calcium-dependent phospholipid-binding proteins, predominantly expressed in epithelial cells. It binds reversibly to phospholipid membranes in a calcium-dependent manner, plays a role in exocytosis, promotes membrane fusion and repair, and inhibits phospholipase A2 activity. It is implicated in membrane dynamics, including repair of plasma membrane injury via curvature and trimerization, and has emerging roles in cancer biology such as regulation of proliferation, metastasis, cell adhesion, and chemotherapy resistance. High expression or altered localization of Annexin A4 is associated with several epithelial cancers and may contribute to disease progression and drug resistance, making it a relevant therapeutic target and biomarker in oncology research
