ANO1 antisense RNA 1 (ANO1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the genomic region complementary to the ANO1 gene (also known as TMEM16A). ANO1-AS1 is believed to play a role in the regulation of ANO1 expression at the transcriptional or post-transcriptional level, potentially through mechanisms common to other antisense lncRNAs, such as modulation of mRNA stability, splicing, or epigenetic regulation. While it may contribute to the regulation of cancer-related processes by controlling ANO1 levels, ANO1-AS1 is not itself a therapeutic target, receptor, or enzyme, and there are no approved drugs directly acting on this lncRNA. Most therapeutic research in this area focuses on ANO1 rather than its antisense transcript.
