Anoctamin 7 (ANO7)

Target
ANO7
Molecular classification
Ion channel, Phospholipid scramblase, Transmembrane protein, Anoctamin family
01

Overview

Anoctamin 7 (ANO7) is a prostate-specific, polytopic membrane protein with calcium-dependent phospholipid scramblase activity, involved in the regulation of vesicle formation, exosome trafficking, and possibly cell-cell adhesion in prostate tissue. It is considered a biomarker and experimental therapeutic target in prostate cancer, where its elevated expression correlates with poor clinical outcomes. ANO7 is part of the anoctamin family of transmembrane proteins, many of which act as ion channels, but ANO7 itself is proposed to lack significant chloride channel activity and instead acts as a membrane scramblase. The gene is subject to alternative splicing, resulting in multiple isoforms, with the long isoform (ANO7L) primarily localizing to the plasma membrane. There is no evidence for a distinct "ANO7L1" entity in current scientific databases or literature.

05

Safety considerations

Not established for therapeutics; limited information due to target’s tissue specificity (prostate) and lack of advanced clinical targeting
06

Interacting drugs

None directly approved or well-characterized; considered a potential target for immunotherapy in prostate cancer
