Anti-StreptInCor antibodies are protective immunoglobulins, primarily of the IgG class, generated by the host immune system in response to the StreptInCor vaccine candidate. StreptInCor is a synthetic 55-amino acid peptide derived from the conserved C-terminal region of the Streptococcus pyogenes M protein, designed to provide broad-spectrum protection against Group A Streptococcus (GAS) infections. These antibodies function by binding to the conserved C-repeat region of the M protein, which promotes opsonization and subsequent phagocytic clearance of the bacteria while also inhibiting bacterial adhesion to host epithelial cells. A critical advantage of anti-StreptInCor antibodies is their specificity for non-host-reactive epitopes, ensuring they do not cross-react with human cardiac tissues like cardiac myosin, a common complication of other M protein-based vaccines. As such, they are a key focus in the development of a safe, universal vaccine for preventing rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease. In clinical development, the measurement of these antibodies serves as a vital biomarker for assessing vaccine-induced immunity and potential efficacy.
Anti-StreptInCor antibodies provide protection by binding to the conserved C-terminal region of the M protein on the surface of Streptococcus pyogenes.
