Overview

Anti-tobacco immunoglobulin G (IgG) induction refers to the process of stimulating the production of IgG antibodies that specifically recognize and bind to tobacco-related antigens, such as nicotine. This approach is being explored as a potential therapeutic intervention for tobacco addiction, with the goal of neutralizing nicotine before it reaches its targets in the brain, thereby reducing its addictive effects. While chronic cigarette smoking reduces total serum/salivary IgGs, smokeless tobacco use may increase serum IgG levels. Anti-tobacco vaccines aim to induce high-affinity anti-nicotine IgGs. The effectiveness depends on generating sufficient titers and affinities for functional blockade/sequestration.
