Anticonvulsant

The term **anticonvulsant** refers to a pharmacological class of drugs that prevent or reduce the severity and frequency of epileptic seizures. These agents are highly diverse—acting on multiple molecular targets such as voltage-gated sodium channels, calcium channels, GABA receptors, GABA transaminase, SV2A (synaptic vesicle protein), and others. As a group, anticonvulsants are used principally for the treatment of epilepsy, but some are also used for mood stabilization and neuropathic pain.
