“Antigen depot” refers to a conceptual and functional mechanism by which certain vaccine **adjuvants** (such as alum or oil-based adjuvants) create a persistent local reservoir of antigen at the site of injection, resulting in *slow and sustained antigen release and presentation* to the immune system[1][3][5][6][7]. The depot effect was historically believed to be a principal mechanism of action for many adjuvants, purportedly leading to enhanced antibody responses by keeping antigens available for antigen-presenting cells (APCs) over an extended period.
