Antigen presenting cell (APC) stimulation refers to the activation and functional enhancement of cells that process and present antigens to T lymphocytes, thereby initiating adaptive immune responses. APCs, including dendritic cells, macrophages, and B cells, capture, process, and display antigenic peptides on their surface in the context of MHC molecules. Stimulation of APCs can be achieved through various mechanisms, leading to T cell activation and modulation of the adaptive immune response. This process is crucial in combating infections and cancer, but dysregulation can contribute to autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Therapeutic strategies targeting APC stimulation aim to enhance immunity against pathogens/tumors or suppress it in autoimmune diseases.
