Antigen presentation via the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) is a fundamental immunological process in which cells display peptide fragments (antigens) on their surface, bound to MHC molecules, for recognition by T cells. This mechanism is essential for initiating adaptive immune responses and distinguishing self from non-self. MHC Class I presents endogenous antigens to CD8+ T cells, while MHC Class II presents exogenous antigens to CD4+ T cells.
