The antigen-presenting function of mature dendritic cells refers to their ability to capture, process, and efficiently present peptide antigens via major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules to T cells after undergoing maturation. Mature dendritic cells migrate to lymphoid tissues where they stimulate naïve T cells, initiating and shaping immune responses. During maturation, DCs upregulate MHC molecules, co-stimulatory receptors (CD80, CD86), and chemokine receptors (e.g., CCR7), decreasing antigen uptake but increasing antigen presentation potency[3][6][8][9]. Mature dendritic cells can present antigens acquired through various forms of endocytosis and phagocytosis and are pivotal in the induction of immunity against pathogens and tumors, as well as in tolerance to self-antigens[4][7][9]. Their dysfunction or dysregulation is implicated in inflammatory diseases, cancer immunology, and autoimmunity[4].
