Antigen-specific adaptive immune response

Overview

The antigen-specific adaptive immune response is a highly specialized immune process triggered when the body encounters an antigen, such as a viral or pathogen-derived protein. This response is mediated by B lymphocytes (producing antibodies specific to the antigen) and T lymphocytes (helping activate other immune cells or killing infected cells), leading to elimination of the pathogen and the development of immunological memory. This process forms the basis for vaccine efficacy, as vaccines deliver the encoded antigen to stimulate a protective immune memory that can be rapidly reactivated upon future exposure to the actual pathogen.
