Antioxidative protection is a complex biological system and process encompassing numerous enzymes, small molecules, and signaling pathways that maintain cellular homeostasis by neutralizing reactive oxygen species and minimizing oxidative damage to biomolecules. Key components include antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase), dietary antioxidants (vitamins C and E, polyphenols), and regulatory transcription factors (NRF2, AP-1, NF-κB) that mediate adaptive responses to oxidative stress. Although the proper functioning of antioxidative mechanisms is crucial for preventing or ameliorating cancer, neurodegenerative, cardiovascular, and inflammatory diseases, "antioxidative protection" is a systems-level concept, not a singular molecule or drug target.
