Antisense RNA to septin 9 (SEPT9)

Molecular classification
Other (non-coding RNA, natural antisense transcript)
01

Overview

This molecule is a natural antisense transcript overlapping and complementary to the SEPT9 gene locus, annotated as ENSG00000267016. Antisense transcripts are non-coding RNAs transcribed from the DNA strand opposite to protein-coding genes. They can regulate the expression of neighboring or overlapping genes through various mechanisms, including transcriptional interference, chromatin modification, RNA masking, and formation of double-stranded RNA that may trigger RNA interference pathways. For SEPT9, a gene implicated in cell division and frequently aberrantly expressed in cancers, the antisense transcript may modulate the level and dynamics of SEPT9 mRNA through chromatin remodeling and epigenetic effects, but its direct function and relevance to human diseases or therapies are not well characterized in the literature. There are no known drugs that specifically target this antisense transcript, and it is not considered a typical therapeutic target.
