Overview

"Antineoplastic activity" refers to the ability of an agent or process to prevent, inhibit, or halt the development of neoplasms (tumors), particularly cancer. It is not itself a molecule, protein, receptor, enzyme, or other discrete biological target. Instead, it describes the therapeutic property shared by many different classes of drugs—such as alkylating agents, antimetabolites, plant alkaloids/topoisomerase inhibitors, hormonal agents—and even immune cells in certain contexts. These drugs act through various mechanisms including DNA damage/replication inhibition and interference with cell division. The term is used broadly in oncology pharmacology but does not correspond to any single molecular entity that could be targeted by drugs. Note: "Antineoplastic activity" should not be treated as a canonical drug target; it describes an outcome/effect rather than a specific molecular structure or functional protein/receptor/enzyme.
