Overview

APRG1 (AP20 region protein 1, also known as C3orf35) is a candidate tumor suppressor gene located in the frequently deleted 3p21.3 locus of human chromosome 3, implicated in cancers such as breast, cervical, and head and neck carcinomas[1][2][3][4]. The encoded protein is predicted to have membrane interaction properties and contains an N-terminal domain conserved among eukaryotic translation factor 6 family members. Down-regulation or epigenetic silencing (such as methylation or deletion) of APRG1 is frequent in several cancers and is associated with advanced tumor stage, grade, metastasis, and poor prognosis. APRG1 may also play a role in cell adhesion through a conserved Arg-Gly-Asp motif and potentially influences tumor microenvironment via mechanisms still under investigation[4]. There is currently no established drug targeting APRG1 directly, and functional studies are limited; however, its expression profile renders it potentially useful as a cancer biomarker, especially for predicting tumor aggressiveness[1][2][4].
