Overview

Apical junction component 1 homolog (AJM1) is a protein predicted to participate in the formation and maintenance of cell-cell junctions, particularly at the apical plasma membrane in epithelial tissues. It is located in the apical junction complex and plasma membrane, where it may contribute to adherens junction integrity. AJM1 is conserved across species, including mouse and C. elegans, but its molecular function and disease relevance in humans are not well characterized beyond basic cell-junction composition. AJM1 is present in a wide variety of tissues but does not fit common categories such as receptor, enzyme, ion channel, or transporter based on available evidence; it is best described as a component of cell junctions with a supporting role in cellular architecture.
