Apolipoprotein A-I (ApoA-I)

Target
ApoA-I
Molecular classification
Apolipoprotein, Lipid binding protein
01

Overview

Apolipoprotein A-I (ApoA-I) is the major structural and functional protein component of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), playing a central role in reverse cholesterol transport, cardiovascular protection, and immune modulation. It facilitates cholesterol efflux from peripheral tissues and acts as a cofactor for LCAT. Defects in APOA1 are linked to Tangier disease and amyloidosis, while low levels are associated with increased cardiovascular risk. It can also bind endotoxins and influence inflammation.
