Overview

Apolipoprotein E Receptor Type II (ApoER2), also known as LRP8, is a member of the low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) family. It is a type I transmembrane protein that functions in both endocytosis and signal transduction, particularly in the Reelin pathway, which is essential for neuronal migration during brain development and synaptic plasticity. ApoER2 also mediates the internalization of apolipoprotein E-containing lipoproteins. Dysfunction or reduced expression of ApoER2 is associated with impaired brain development, deficits in learning/memory, and increased risk of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s disease.
