API5, also known as Apoptosis Inhibitor 5, AAC-11, or FIF, is a nuclear protein with anti-apoptotic properties. It inhibits programmed cell death, particularly under conditions of growth factor deprivation. It plays a role in immune escape in tumors and participates in mRNA nuclear export. API5 interacts with several proteins involved in apoptosis, cell survival, immune response, transcription regulation, RNA export, and chromatin remodeling. Its heptad leucine repeat region is a potential therapeutic target.
