Overview

Apoptosis regulator BAX (BAX) is a pro-apoptotic member of the BCL-2 family. Upon activation by apoptotic signals, BAX translocates to the mitochondrial outer membrane, oligomerizes, and forms pores, leading to the release of cytochrome c and subsequent caspase activation, ultimately resulting in cell death. It is a therapeutic target for cancer therapy and diseases involving excessive cell loss.
