Apoptotic BCL2L1-antisense long non-coding RNA (ABALON) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed antisense to BCL2L1, encoding non-coding transcripts that regulate cancer cell proliferation, metastasis, apoptosis, and autophagy. ABALON functions as an oncogene in non-small cell lung cancer and colorectal cancer, where its expression is associated with poor prognosis, increased tumor progression, reduced apoptosis, and altered sensitivity to chemotherapy (notably 5-fluorouracil) through its impacts on mitophagy. Downregulation or silencing of ABALON inhibits proliferation, metastasis, and autophagy in cancer cells, and may serve as a therapeutic target and biomarker in oncology[1][5].
