The aquaporin 10 pseudogene (ENSG00000278694) is a non-coding genetic locus that has lost its functional protein-coding ability due to mutations such as frame-shifts, premature stop codons, and aberrant splice sites. Aquaporin 10 (AQP10) itself is a member of the aquaglyceroporin family, integral membrane proteins that facilitate the transport of water and small solutes like glycerol[1]. In humans and various mammals (such as mice, cattle, sheep, and goats), the aquaporin 10 pseudogene does not produce a functional protein, and thus lacks the physiological roles typical of aquaporins[1][3]. There is no evidence it is involved in signaling, transport, or as a molecular target in disease or therapeutic intervention. Its presence is typically the result of evolutionary gene duplication and subsequent loss of functional constraint[1][3].
