Aquaporin 7 pseudogene 2 (AQP7P2) is a genomic DNA sequence classified as a pseudogene, highly homologous to the functional Aquaporin 7 (AQP7) gene. Unlike AQP7, which encodes a membrane protein involved in water, glycerol, and urea transport and plays physiological roles in adipose tissue, kidney, and sperm cells, AQP7P2 does not code for a functional protein and has no recognized biological activity or disease associations. Multiple aquaporin pseudogenes are documented in the human genome, and AQP7P2 is one of them. It is not considered a therapeutic target, biomarker, or druggable entity by current scientific standards. Note: Most of the information available in biomedical databases pertains to the canonical Aquaporin 7 (AQP7), not its pseudogenes. If your interest is in the aquaporin transporter itself as a molecular target, you should refer to Aquaporin 7 (AQP7), not AQP7P2.
