Overview

Aquaporin 7 pseudogene 4 (AQP7P4) is a genomic DNA region classified as a pseudogene of the aquaporin family, most closely related to Aquaporin 7 (AQP7). Pseudogenes are generally non-functional copies of protein-coding genes, arising through gene duplication or retrotransposition events, and do not produce functional RNA or protein products. Therefore, AQP7P4 does not participate in biological transport processes or signaling pathways, nor is it considered a therapeutic target, receptor, transporter, enzyme, or biomarker relevant for disease, safety, or drug development purposes. Aquaporin family proteins (such as AQP7) are integral membrane channels mediating water and small solute transport, but protein-coding functionality and physiological roles apply only to intact genes, not their pseudogenes. AQP7 plays a role in glycerol and water transport in adipose tissue, kidney, and other tissues, with relevance to metabolic regulation and disease, but this does not extend to the pseudogenes like AQP7P4. Pseudogenes, by definition, are not druggable or actionable molecular targets in pharmacology. AQP7P4 is not a functional gene, has no known isoforms, does not act as a transporter, receptor, or enzyme, and is not a therapeutic target. Because of its status as a pseudogene, it should not be used as a target for therapeutic or diagnostic development, and it does not have associated drugs, safety concerns, or disease roles.
