ALOX12P1 (Arachidonate 12-lipoxygenase pseudogene 1) is a non-functional gene sequence located in the human genome, showing high sequence similarity to the functional arachidonate 12-lipoxygenase gene (ALOX12). Pseudogenes such as ALOX12P1 do not encode active proteins and are generally not implicated in cellular biological functions or disease mechanisms. The characterization of ALOX12P1 arises from evolutionary studies of lipoxygenase gene families and comparative genomics. Unlike ALOX12, which is a functional enzyme involved in fatty acid metabolism and associated with disease roles and drug targets, ALOX12P1 is not expressed as a functional protein and is not considered a therapeutic target[4][6].
