Arachidonate 12-lipoxygenase pseudogene 2 (ALOX12P2) is a pseudogene in the human genome named for its sequence similarity to the functional gene ALOX12 (arachidonate 12-lipoxygenase). Pseudogenes like ALOX12P2 arise by gene duplication or retrotransposition but have acquired mutations that prevent them from encoding a functional protein. ALOX12P2 does not produce a functional enzyme or protein and is not implicated in any known biological, physiological, or pathological processes[4]. It should not be confused with closely related but functional lipoxygenase genes such as ALOX12 or ALOX12B[4].
