ARF GTPase 1 pseudogene 2 (ARF1P2)

Overview

ARF GTPase 1 pseudogene 2 (ARF1P2) is a pseudogene in the human genome related to the ARF (ADP-ribosylation factor) family but does not produce a functional protein. Pseudogenes generally arise from ancestral duplication events or retrotransposition and often carry sequence similarity to their protein-coding counterparts (in this case, ARF1), but acquire disabling mutations that preclude normal expression or function. Therefore, ARF1P2 is not considered a therapeutic target, does not contribute to biological functions, disease roles, or drug mechanisms, and should not be confused with functional ARF family members such as ARF1, a small GTPase involved in vesicle trafficking and cancer biology[2][1].
