Overview

ARF like GTPase 2 binding protein (ARL2BP) is a cytosolic protein that interacts specifically with the active, GTP-bound form of ARL2, a small GTPase in the RAS superfamily[3]. ARL2BP is necessary for correct formation and maintenance of ciliary microtubule doublets and is highly expressed in photoreceptors, where its loss results in shortened and morphologically abnormal cilia, leading to impaired photoreceptor function and retinitis pigmentosa[1][5]. In addition, loss of ARL2BP in mice leads to male infertility due to defective sperm flagellum formation[5]. No known drugs directly target this protein, and its pseudogene "ARL2BPP3" does not encode a functional product. Clarification: The term "ARF like GTPase 2 binding protein pseudogene 3 (ARL2BPP3)" refers to a pseudogene—not a protein-coding gene and not a therapeutically tractable target; hence, it is not considered a therapeutic target, and there is something incorrect or misleading about treating it as one[3]. For biologically and clinically relevant information, refer to ARL2BP. There is no evidence that "ARL2BPP3" is functional, disease-relevant, or drug-targetable[3]. Summary of error: - Canonical target is ARL2BP - "Pseudogene 3" indicates a non-functional gene copy - No evidence of therapeutic or biological targeting relevance for ARL2BPP3 If you need structured information for ARL2BP (the functional gene/protein), use the above details and disregard "pseudogene 3."
