Arginine-fifty homeobox (ARGFX) is a DNA-binding transcription factor belonging to the homeobox gene family, characterized by a conserved homeodomain of 60–63 amino acids. Homeobox genes are typically involved in early embryonic development, and ARGFX is thought to act as a transcriptional activator. Although highly conserved, ARGFX is unique to humans among investigated mammals, originating by gene duplication in early eutherian evolution; its coding sequence is mostly disrupted in other mammals. The gene is primarily expressed in human testis but does not appear to be broadly implicated as a disease-related gene or therapeutic target, nor are any drug interactions or clinical biomarker utilities currently established.
