Arginine Gingipain (Rgp)

Target
Rgp
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Cysteine protease, Peptidase family C25
01

Overview

Arginine gingipains are a group of arginine-specific cysteine proteases produced by the bacterium *Porphyromonas gingivalis*, a major pathogen implicated in chronic periodontitis. These enzymes, primarily RgpA and RgpB, are key virulence factors that contribute to bacterial colonization, immune evasion, and tissue destruction in periodontal disease. They are considered therapeutic targets for the treatment of periodontitis.
