Target intelligence / Profile preview
Argininosuccinate synthetase 1 pseudogene 5 (ASS1P5) is a *pseudogene* related to the human ASS1 (argininosuccinate synthetase 1) gene family. Unlike functional genes, pseudogenes such as ASS1P5 do not encode active proteins and have no known biological or therapeutic function. ASS1P5 is not implicated in disease, does not act as a biomarker or drug target, and has no known physiological role[4]. Note: Information concerning ASS1P5 should not be confused with the functional enzyme argininosuccinate synthetase 1 (ASS1), which is involved in the urea cycle and is implicated in urea cycle disorders and certain cancers[1][2][3][5]. ASS1P5, however, is a *genomic pseudogene* without functional gene product or recognized role in human disease or therapy[4].
