Aminopeptidase B

Molecular classification
Enzyme, Metallopeptidase, M1 family metallopeptidase
01

Overview

Aminopeptidase B (AP-B) is a zinc-dependent exopeptidase enzyme that selectively removes basic residues—specifically arginine (Arg) and lysine (Lys)—from the N-terminus of peptide substrates. It plays a crucial role in the final stages of precursor processing mechanisms, neuropeptide metabolism, and the regulation of bioactive peptides. AP-B is widely distributed across various tissues and intracellular/extracellular locations. Its activity is regulated by zinc ion concentration.
