Overview

ARHGAP29 antisense RNA 1 (ARHGAP29-AS1) is a human long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene located on chromosome 1. It is transcribed antisense to the protein-coding gene ARHGAP29, meaning its RNA is produced from the opposite DNA strand and overlaps the ARHGAP29 gene. As a member of the lncRNA class, ARHGAP29-AS1 does not encode a protein and its precise biological function is not well characterized. By analogy with other antisense lncRNAs, it may be involved in epigenetic or transcriptional regulation of its sense gene (ARHGAP29), but direct evidence for this or involvement in disease processes is lacking.
