ARHGEF18 antisense RNA 1 (ARHGEF18-AS1)

Target
ARHGEF18-AS1
Molecular classification
Antisense long noncoding RNA (antisense lncRNA), Noncoding RNA (ncRNA)
01

Overview

ARHGEF18 antisense RNA 1 (ARHGEF18-AS1) is a non-coding RNA transcript classified as an antisense long noncoding RNA (lncRNA)[1][3][6]. It is transcribed from the strand complementary to the ARHGEF18 gene, a known Rho/Rac guanine nucleotide exchange factor involved in actin cytoskeleton organization[1][4]. While the specific biological functions and disease roles of ARHGEF18-AS1 have not been experimentally delineated, antisense lncRNAs in general are important regulators of gene expression, often modulating the expression of their sense gene at transcriptional or post-transcriptional levels[3][6]. They are increasingly recognized for their roles in epigenetic modification and regulation of cellular processes, and their dysregulation can contribute to human diseases, especially cancers[3]. There are currently no known drugs targeting ARHGEF18-AS1 and it is not considered a therapeutic target in itself.

Mechanism of action

Not established for ARHGEF18-AS1; in general, antisense lncRNAs may: Interfere with the transcription or stability of the corresponding sense mRNA; Recruit epigenetic modifiers to gene loci

03

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression (through antisense RNA mechanisms)Potential roles in epigenetic modificationModulation of transcription by influencing the corresponding sense gene (likely ARHGEF18)
04

Disease associations

Cancer (general role for antisense lncRNAs; specific role for ARHGEF18-AS1 unclear)Other (possible involvement in diseases through epigenetic silencing, though not specifically assigned to ARHGEF18-AS1)
05

Safety considerations

Not established (typically not direct therapeutic targets; safety matters for antisense oligonucleotides in general are beyond this context)
