Overview

ARL14 effector protein-like (ARL14EPL) is a protein-coding gene that encodes a protein of unknown function, with homology to ADP-ribosylation factor (ARF) family GTPase effector proteins. The official name is based on its annotated similarity to ARL14 effectors, but there is no strong experimental evidence establishing its molecular function or involvement in specific pathways or cellular processes in humans. The gene is expressed in various tissues, but subcellular and pathway annotations are predicted and not validated by protein-level experiments. Although genetic studies have associated its locus with Dystonia 11 and Familial Adenomatous Polyposis 1, these links are not fully understood and lack direct mechanistic confirmation. The paralog ARL14EP is also described but with similarly limited functional information. There is currently insufficient evidence to classify ARL14EPL as a therapeutic target or to assign it to a well-defined molecular family or disease mechanism.

Mechanism of action

None reported for drugs, as there are no known drug interactions or pharmacology

03

Biological functions

Other (no experimental evidence for specific biological functions)
04

Disease associations

Other (no direct experimentally-supported disease roles; although ARL14EPL has been *associated* via genetic studies with Dystonia 11, myoclonic and Familial Adenomatous Polyposis 1, these associations require further confirmation and do not necessarily implicate direct mechanistic involvement)
