Overview

Armadillo repeat-containing protein 3 (ARMC3) is a member of the armadillo-repeat protein family, characterized by imperfect 45-amino acid repeats (ARM domains) that enable protein-protein interactions[1][4][6]. ARMC3 has key roles in several cellular processes, especially autophagy and spermatogenesis, where it anchors autophagy machinery required for sperm development and mitochondrial function[1]. Loss of ARMC3 in animal models leads to sperm defects and infertility[1]. Human ARMC3 exhibits testis-preferential expression but is also identified as a cancer/testis antigen that may be aberrantly expressed in various tumors, suggesting a potential link to cancer biology[2][5][6]. ARMC3 may also participate in ciliary assembly and function in specific tissues[1]. There are currently no known drugs targeting ARMC3, and its mechanisms in disease remain under active investigation.
