Overview

ARNT2 antisense RNA 1 (ARNT2-AS1) is a long non-coding antisense RNA implicated in the regulation of the ARNT2 gene, which encodes a basic-helix-loop-helix transcription factor involved in central nervous system development, hypoxia responses, and environmental adaptation. Antisense RNAs can modulate gene expression by binding to their sense mRNAs or recruiting chromatin-modifying proteins that alter local transcription. ARNT2-AS1 is not currently identified as a therapeutic target, nor are drugs or biomarkers attributed specifically to it in current databases. Its regulatory functions are reflective of general antisense RNA roles in modulating gene and chromatin activity, primarily at the locus of overlap with ARNT2. Antisense RNAs like ARNT2-AS1 are broadly classified as long non-coding RNAs, with their main function being to regulate nearby coding genes through mechanisms that include direct base pairing with corresponding sense transcripts or modulating chromatin states. The protein gene ARNT2, in contrast, is a bHLH-PAS family transcription factor with neurodevelopmental and hypoxia-response roles, but ARNT2-AS1 does not encode this protein. If further therapeutic or functional roles specific to ARNT2-AS1 emerge, they are not yet established in current literature or major genomic databases.
